Stories about Partizan - POP 8 - "Trophy Harvest 1979."
In March, 41 years have passed since the final game of the Radivoj Korac Cup, in which Partizan defeated Italian Arigoni 108:98 and won this European trophy for the second year in a row. After an exciting double match with Jugoplastika in the semi-finals (victory 97:96 in Split and 98:96 in the Hall of Sports), Partizan won the final, which was played that year in Belgrade in the "Pionir" hall. Arrigoni from Rieti arrived led by the legendary coach Aurelio Pentasuglia and the American center tandem Willy Sojerner - Clifford Milley, former NBA players who previously played for the Lakers and the New Jersey Nets. The team also included the great hope of Italian basketball at the time, Marco Brunamonti, later a prominent national team player. The final was marked by a wonderful atmosphere in full "Pionir" and the outstanding performance of the team led by coach Dušan Ivković that season. Partizan's young, mobile centers Marić (23 points), Pešić (18 points) and Petrović (12 points) led a great battle with the experienced Americans Milli and Sojerner, who together scored as many as 59 points. But the advantage was brought by the back line of the "black and whites". Although he did not train ten days before the final due to injury, Dragan Kićanović was unstoppable - he scored 41 points, and he had excellent support in the organization of the game in Todorić (14 points, with an excellent defensive role). That evening, Partizan began harvesting trophies in the 1978/79 season, in which, in addition to the Korać Cup, they also won the Championship and the Yugoslav Cup.
On March 20, 1979, Partizan played with: Todorić 14, Kićanović 41, Kerkez, Petrović 12, Medić, Babić, Marić 23, Vujacić, Beravs, Pešić 18
