POP 40 - Fourth "Double Crown"

The beginning of the decade in which Partizan dominated domestic competitions was marked by the 2001/02 season and the return of Dusko Vujošević to the position of coach.

It all started in April 2002 with the victory against Budućnost in the Cup final, but what the army of black and white fans had been waiting for since 1997 was the return of the national champion's trophy to the club's showcases. After the elimination of Crvena zvezda (2-0 in the quarter-final series) and FMP Železnik (3-1 in the semi-finals - with drama in the fourth match, when Miloš Vujanić scored a three-pointer from nine meters to extend the period in which the black and whites triumphed), the finals were awaited. against the three-time consecutive champion, Budućnosti from Podgorica.

The final saw a classic "knockout in three rounds", the first of which, played in Podgorica, was the most uncertain. The home team won the first quarter with a 16-point difference, and it seemed that the Podgorica final from previous seasons would be repeated. However, by halftime, with a great defense (only eight points conceded in 10 minutes), Partizan turned it around to 44:42. Vlado Šćepanović, with a standard good scoring performance, subordinated his game to the team, some of the key points were scored by Nenad Čanak, captain Veselin Petrović was excellent, Đuro Ostojić fought like a lion, Jovo Stanojević had a hundred percent performance in shooting from the field, and his " "extra role" was played by second point guard Vula Avdalović. In the dramatic finale, the player of the decision was Stevan Nagfeji (he was coming back from injury for a long time and sat on the bench for almost the whole season), who hit the decisive shot for the victory 85:84. The "ice" had been broken. The second match in "Morača" was won more easily than the opening one (74:66), with great support from Partizan fans, who made up almost half of the over 5,000 spectators.

"Pioneer" was waiting for the title. An hour before the start of the third game played on June 6 in Belgrade, the hall was packed, and the best basketball audience in Europe was waiting for the celebration. "Vasion" triples by Vujanić and Petrović, dunks by Stanojević, a great game by the entire Vujošević team removed the uncertainty at the start. The triumph of 104:80, with the thunderous song of 7,000 souls, brought great celebration for the ninth championship title and the fourth "double crown" in the history of the club.
