Stories about Partizan - POP 28

Remembering Harris

Haris Brkic

(1974 - 2000)

In addition to the many victories and joys that our basketball players bring us at the end of the year, every December is also sad for Partizan fans. In December two decades ago, one of the aces of our Club, Haris Brkić, went down as a legend forever.

Haris, from his native Sarajevo and playing for Bosnia, made his debut for the first team of Partizan as a 19-year-old in the season 1993/94. He played in the black and white jersey until 1999, when he went to Budućnost from Podgorica, for which he played for a year.

At the end of 2000, the flamboyant defender of exceptional talent returned to Partizan and was supposed to infuse new strength into the black and whites with the great scorer, also a returnee, Mićo Berić. But, unfortunately, the dream of the old tandem in a new edition did not last long. After returning to Partizan, Haris Brkić played only three games. On December 12, a criminal hand shot the young ace in front of the "Pionir" hall, when he was returning from training, the evening before the team was supposed to leave for the Suproliga match in Istanbul against Efes Pilsen. The fight for Harris's life lasted two days, but there was no help. Our basketball player's heart stopped beating on December 15, 2000, in the early hours of the morning.

Haris Brkić played for Partizan for seven seasons. In the black and white jersey, he played 294 games, scored 3,740 points and won six trophies (three state championship titles and three national cups). He also played with Partizan in the Final Four of the Euroleague in Barcelona in 1998.

The legend of Harris will always live on in black and white hearts.
